Jesus said, “I will build my church“
Pastor Chris Ricketts
My earliest recollection of anything spiritual was when I was just seven years old and my Mum had died. Even though I can’t remember anyone ever teaching me about God, I can remember praying – it just seemed a natural thing to do. But it wasn’t until I was 15 years old that I started going along to church. I suppose that seemed a bit unnatural.
I went along with my girlfriend, (now my wife) to the youth group at Sholing Baptist. Each week a different speaker would explain to us something from the Bible and after a relatively short time of about 6 months I prayed again, this time asking God to forgive me for all the wrong things I had done and to ask Jesus to live in my life by his Holy Spirit. God answered that prayer and I became a Christian.
When I left school I worked for HSBC bank for 10 years. During that time I became increasingly involved in Christian teaching – Sunday School, Youth Groups, and Sunday Services at various churches. And in 1987 I left the bank and became the full time Pastor at Sholing. Since then I’ve tried to help people understand the Bible and allow God to bless and transform their lives.
I have found that the Bible makes sense and believe that God has given it to us to teach us all that we need to know. It tells us we have all sinned but it also tells us about how much God loves us and how we can be forgiven. I am so glad that God is now a natural part of my life and would encourage everyone to find out how they too can have a real relationship with him.
